Yesterday, we did the forwards and fantasized about what stud forwards you could have drafted with the 5th overall pick in 2008. Now let’s dive into what defencemen and goalies stand out from this draft.
Once again, we're not advocating that Luke Schenn was a bad pick. He is looking like a stud on the Leafs blueline this season. Obviously in every draft you never know how a player will pan out, there's always risk involved (see Alexander Daigle).
Each player is valuable to their in different ways. Some may be stay at home defencemen like Schenn, or some may be puck moving powerplay specialists like Karlsson. The thing is looking at what the Leafs needed then and if that issue is still a problem, and scoring is looking like an issue.
