It's been a fun year for Dirty Dangle. Since launching our site in late October, we've had some fun times with the site. We've become a dotcom, interacted with people in hockey who we otherwise wouldn't have had the chance to, and we've made some people laugh. On the eve of a new year, we want to share with our favourite moments in hockey, as well as with the site.

Kids Say the Darndest Things
Last week we posted Why We Love the World Junior Tourney. One of the things we loved about the World Junior Championship was this:
With this said, you only have to watch intermission or post game interviews to see this in action. Or, you can follow the young players on twitter.
"Raw hockey players. It's rare now, but sometimes you get the odd hockey player who hasn't had any media training and gives you a real interview. No cliché quotes, just a young hockey player with a personality and a love for the game"

If HBO Followed All the NHL Teams
One of the best things about HBO 24/7 Penguins/Capitals: Road to the Winter Classic aside from the amazing footage and Bruce F***ing Boudreau f-bombs, is the little things you learn about each team. It may be what they do on plane rides, the epic close ups of battle scars, or even just catching an interview with Bruce F***ing Boudreau after lunch.
The show reveals so much, that it makes us wonder what it would be like if HBO covered the other 28 NHL teams.

Ghetto Airbrushed Hockey Cards
In the early 1990s, I was a big time hockey card collector. I can remember seeing so many cards that looked like they had been painted or airbrushed. It seemed like when players got traded they would just update the card with the new team’s jersey and it would just look terrible. I still love finding old hockey cards like this for the laughs, or classics like the Pavel Bure's roller hockey card.
On the topic of hockey cards. Check out our buddy Wax Stain Rookie for some solid information on all things hockey card related.

Players You Won't Be Seeing at the World Juniors
![]() |
1 out of 3 ain't bad |
There are many players this season who could play for their respective countries at the tournament. Canada is normally a frontrunner in this area, and this season is no different. With 7 NHLers who are eligible, they still wouldn't come close to rivaling the 2005 WJC team.

Why We Love the World Junior Tourney
It’s that time of year. The Christmas tree is up and I have been rearranging the gifts under it to make it look like there are even more gifts. The fridge is stocked with Christmas Coke (you know the ones with Santa on them) and my Dad is stocking up on rum to get him through the holidays. Oh ya, and there is that little hockey tournament that will be starting up on Boxing Day.

Celebrity Fans of the Game
I noticed something at the last few Toronto Maple Leaf games I have been to: the crowd seemed to be a little bit more teenie bobberish. There seems to be a lot of young girls wearing pink Tyler Bozak and Luke Schenn jersery's, and they mostly just text during the game. They are also the ones that scream like crazy when the Air Canada Centre do those stupid car races on the screen and you cheer for your section. Hate that shit.
I am wondering if this recent spike of young girls at Leafs game is because they are hoping to run into Justin Bieber. Yes, this might be a stretch, sort of like JS Giguere and his bad groins. But I hear Bieber is a big Toronto Maple Leaf fan.

Sunday Recovery
After an eventful Saturday of hockey, and probably heavy drinking, its time to relax and recover on the action across the country. Catch up on some teams and highlights you may have missed while trying to get that blonde's phone number last night.

The Green Men in Vancouver brought some Eggos last night. |
Decent night in the NHL last night. Eric Staal got a natural hat trick, Eric Boulton somehow scored three goals, and I witnessed a drunk twenty-something-year-old buy a Justin Pogge Toronto Marlies jersey off a 45 year old woman with a buzzcut for $30. Fun night.

Flashback Friday
Every Friday we will be adding one of our favorite hockey videos from over the years. Some might be painful, some might be just plain dirty, but they all have a story behind them that make them downright awesome and great to watch over and over again.
The Punch Up in Piestany
You'd be hard pressed to find someone who talks hockey and doesn't know about this infamous brawl during the 1987 World Junior Hockey Championship. It was a massive bench-clearing brawl in which the officials actually turned the lights off in the arena to try and stop it.

HBO 24/7 Premiere Review
HBO's 24/7 Penguins/Capitals: Road to the NHL Winter Classic airs Wednesdays at 10pm on HBO. Dirty Dangle will review each of the four episodes in the mini series.
Kudos to the NHL for doing this. Going behind the scenes and following NHL teams like this should have been done years ago, but at least they're on it now. Ever since I first saw Brian Bellows get chirped by Bryan Trottier and Kevin Stevens I've wanted to see more microphones on players. Occasionally you get the odd player caught on mic by a colour commentator between the benches, but that's only a tease. HBO 24/7 goes beyond this, and into the dressing room and players personal lives with all-access. Enjoy it in all its glory, we know we will.
If you haven't seen the episode yet, you should probably stop reading.

Tyler Bozak Afraid to Fly
In Tuesday's Toronto Star, there was an article about Tyler Bozak and his fear of
Bozak says the fear doesn’t affect his game, because the team travels the night before it plays and he’s able to calm down.

Edmonton Oilers Cheerleaders Debut
Tonight will be a historic night in Edmonton. For the first time in Canada, the Edmonton Oilers will have NHL cheerleaders during their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Little is known about the cheer team. All we know is that there are 19 of them between the ages of 19-28 and "athletic girls in good physical condition".
The Edmonton Oilers website features a pretty epic video to pump you up for the cheer team's debut. It shows you their uniforms, as well as reveals that there will be more brunettes than blondes on the team.
Let's hope the Sportsnet cameras do their job tonight and let viewers at home meet the new cheer team as well.
Usually reserved for struggling hockey markets, many NHL teams already feature cheerleaders, or girls wearing short dresses/skirts to shovel snow during stoppages and plays.
