So today is Hockey Day in Canada on CBC - what a beautiful day it's going to be. I plan on watching all 3 games and after the 1st game I’m going to hit up the local rink for a game of shinny. I will post some pictures later on of this little pond that we play on. It's pretty amazing and the community helps build it every year.
The CBC broadcast starts at noon and the first game will start at 2pm with the Ottawa Senators visiting the Edmonton Oilers for an early start in Western Canada. At 6:30 p.m., the traditional Hockey Night in Canada coverage will start, with Hockey Tonight, followed by the Toronto Maple Leafs playing the Montreal Canadiens. At 10 p.m., the day-long affair will end with the Calgary Flames playing the Vancouver Canucks.
Those are some exciting match ups. I look forward to watching the young up-and-coming Oilers take on the now full-on-rebuilding Senators. As a Leaf fan I am glad that the Senators don't have Mike Fisher anymore. He was always so tough to play against. We're sure Mr. Underwood will now bother Central division fans.
The Maple Leafs heading into Montreal should be a great game. I love watching games in Montreal and wish that the ACC in Toronto was as loud and crazy. I have only been to one live game in Montreal years ago, and it was against the Los Angeles Kings. I can remember being so stoked that Felix Potvin was playing for the Kings and even though it was just a regular season game the atmosphere was amazing. I am looking forward to watching a full game of Joffrey Lupul as a Maple Leaf, I hope he has a big game, and can see him getting his first point as a Leaf.
And for the last game of the night - I will either be icing my knees from playing shinny earlier on in the day or watching it at a bar. Plans are still all up in the air, but it should be a great game. The Flames are red hot and I enjoy watching the Sedin’s pass the puck around.
How are you going to spend your Hockey Day?
