This from the Globe and Mail:
"Len Barrie’s misadventures in leading the Bear Mountain golf resort and real-estate development into bankruptcy left more than 100 angry investors and creditors in his wake, including 18 current and former National Hockey League players who lost a total of more than $13-million"Here is a list of the current and retired NHL players involved (from The Province):
Sean Burke, currently the Phoenix Coyotes goaltending coach, was very unhappy with Barrie in the papers this past week. Burke has even filed a complaint with the RCMP and they are conducting a criminal investigation into the complaints against Barrie. Burke got off easy with his $600,000, I wonder how Mike Vernon feels - in addition to his $2 million invested, he has a $7.6 million loan guarantee with HSBC. Ouch.
Some things you might not know about Len Barrie:
- He is a former NHL hockey player
- Played 184 games for 4 NHL teams
- Had the tools to be a great hockey player. He racked up 85 goals and 185 assists in his last year of junior in the WHL
- His son Tyson, is a Colorado Avalanche prospect and represented Canada at the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championships
Hey Tyson, if your reading this your dads a huge douchebag.
ReplyDeleteHad no idea his son was Tyson Barrie. Pretty good young prospect.

Anyone who defends this guy is a leach that sponged off him, and believe me there were many. This arrogant prick had the Gaul to build himself a $10,000,000 house, a $2,000,000 lake house, own a private jet (%), a Jr. A team, an NHL team and buy his Brother in Law's shares for a rumoured $25,000,000. All before he paid his investors anything! The $300,000,000 debt on a piece of land worth about $50,000,000 is the biggest Con in the history of Victoria BC. Good on HSBC for taking the bath, I think they should look into the HSBC employees who regularly attended the extravagant parties at Barrie’s House. Oh and just a head’s up, Ballagio isn’t the only collector looking for money, how about Atlantic City?
that's funny!
