May 4th - aside from having the distinction of being overused by Star Wars fans as "May the fourth be with you" - it's also the date of the Toronto Maple Leafs last playoff game. It's been 7 long years since May 4th, 2004, with the Maple Leafs failing to make the postseason since the NHL lockout of 2004-2005.
Many Leaf fans will remember that game 7 years ago. Trailing Philadelphia 3-2 in the Conference Semifinals, Game Six would go to overtime tied at 2-2. There was furious action and the Leafs fans at the ACC were all standing going nuts as the Leafs pressured the Flyers in their own zone. The puck comes back into the Leafs end and at 13:06 of the first overtime period, Darcy Tucker absolutely demolishes Sami Kapanen with a bodycheck against the boards. The play is not blown dead as Kapanen drunkenly stumbles to his feet and eventually makes it to the Flyers bench after a few spins and falls. The Leafs almost score on the play following the hit as they have a temporary man advantage which quickly turns into a Mark Recchi-John LeClair 2-on-1 - which is stopped by Ed Belfour. Mats Sundin tries to solo it into the offensive zone as the puck goes back down into the Flyers zone where the puck is taken off him and shot up the ice for another 2-on-1. This time its Jeremy Roenick and Tony Amonte. JR goes glove side high and dances to centre ice as Leaf fans let out a collective "FUCK".
