Brendan Shanahan handed down his first suspension today. And then he dealt out another. Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond was suspended for the remainder of the preseason (4 games) and 1 regular season game in a video-delivered message from Sheriff Shanahan which actually explained his reasoning behind the suspension. Next, Jody Shelley was disciplined. This time for 10 games for his hit from behind/boarding call on the Leafs Darryl Boyce.
Here's Shanny with his reasoning:
Not only do we agree with the length of suspensions Shanny is dealing out, but the way he's doing it. He's explaining them and giving actual reasons for the length, unlike Colin Campbell's "Wheel of Justice" which left everyone head-scratching. Let's hope this transparency continues as it certainly makes understanding these punishments a lot easier after the Colin Campbell-era.
There's a new sheriff in town, and we like him.
