Fantasy Monday

Every Monday we will reveal our fantasy players for the past week, as well as our players to watch out for in the upcoming week for various types of pools and leagues
Fantasy hockey leagues are buzzing these days. In Yahoo! Head-to-Head leagues, teams are clinching playoff spots and trade deadlines are coming up. Fantasy GM's are paying closer attention to detail as we dive into the final full month of regular season fantasy hockey. Don't be afraid to make some moves to shake your team up, there's no reward for finishing 2nd in your playoff pool.

2011 Dirty Dangle Trade Deadline Drinking Game!

Whether you're calling in sick for work today or feel like putting a little something in your coffee at the desk, join us for the Dirty Dangle 2011 Trade Deadline Drinking Game. Due to the success of the 2011 All Star Fantasy Draft Drinking Game, we've added Trade Deadline Day as another event in which to throw some brewskis back. From our university days, we know that beer and pancakes go together quite well, but we'll provide you with some other drink options to get you through the day.

Sunday Recovery

After an eventful Saturday of hockey, and probably heavy drinking, its time to relax and recover on the action across the country. Catch up on some teams and highlights you may have missed while trying to get that blonde's phone number last night.
It was a lighter Saturday than usual, with only 8 games on the schedule. The biggest surprise of the night had to come from the New York Islanders, who sold out for the first time this season with 16,250 in attendance - we think somebody named Ovechkin had something to do with it. Milan Lucic had a nice homecoming in Vancouver with a three point night including the game winner - the Hoss now has 27 goals this season. Making some really cool hockey history last night, Blake Geoffrion became the NHL's first fourth generation player as he made his Nashville Predators debut. His father, Dan Geoffrion, played three seasons for Montreal and Winnipeg. His grandfather, Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion, played for Montreal and New York for 16 seasons. And finally, his great grandfather, Howie Morenz, played 14 seasons for Montreal, Chicago and New York. There's your hockey history fact for the month. A yummy shout out to Hooked on Fondant for hooking the boys of Dirty Dangle up with some delicious birthday cupcakes.

Players Behaving Badly

We love when hockey players are caught partying or drinking on camera. While athletes are supposed to have this clean and tidy image, you get the rare cases of players behaving badly - or at least not in the "professional manner" we expect of NHLers. If you remember one of our first posts ever - the original Players Behaving Badly featuring Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, you know some know how to party more than others. It seems every year, there is a group of players or a team that make hockey blog headlines with their late-night antics.

Flashback Friday

Every Friday we will be adding one of our favourite hockey videos from over the years. Some might be painful, some might be just plain dirty, but they all have a story behind them that make them downright awesome and great to watch over and over again.
With Peter Forsberg officially hanging up his skates after a brief 35 minute comeback this season, we remember Foppa for the great player he was. His powerful presence in the corners, his playmaking ability, and his willingness to play the game he loves. We're sure you will have a good retirement Peter.

Buried Alive in the Minors

NHL GM's have found a nice little loop-hole in the new collective bargaining agreement. If you mess up on a contract and need some cap relief, just take an Advil for your headache and send that player to the minors - and he is off your cap hit.

What Is Your Intro Song?

Mental Note #1: Make sure you take your skateguards off
You are standing in the hall way, legs shaking and you can barely breathe. There are so many thoughts racing through your head. Did my parents get the tickets I left for them? Am I really here right now. You have finally made it. It’s your first NHL game.

Closing Up the Cottage

The term "Muskoka Five" was tossed around hockey message boards and used by the media in reference to the five Toronto Maple Leafs with no trade clauses: Mats Sundin, Bryan McCabe, Pavel Kubina, Darcy Tucker, and Tomas Kaberle. There are many interesting story lines associated with the name Muskoka Five - where did it come from, what did it mean, and what to do with the players.

Revenge of the Hockey Nerds

One of the great things about hockey is all of the stats categories. We love checking out the lesser-known stats and looking at how certain players are doing in specific areas of the game.

Brian Burke Drops Kris Versteeg Off in Philadelphia

Brian Burke: “NEXT STOP! Philadelphia, Pennsylvania…..Wells Fargo Center!”

Kris Versteeg jumps up, grabs his hockey bag and runs to the front of the bus.

Brian Burke: “Well son, sorry it didn’t work out in Toronto."

Kris Versteeg (with his mouthguard hanging out the side of his mouth): “Oh shucks, don’t worry Mr. Burke. I am sooo glad to be a Flyer. Thank you, Thank you!"

The Phil Kessel Missing Posters

Dirty Dangle would first like to say to all the haters out there - we are Toronto Maple Leaf fans. We would love for Phil Kessel to score 40 goals every year and help lead the team to the playoffs.

Ok, now with that out of the way.

The Phil Kessel missing posters turned up at the ACC during the Leafs overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils this week and was a featured post on Yahoo’s Puck Daddy. We have no idea how they ended up there, sometimes things just appear.

The first ever "Phil Kessel Missing Poster" was made last season when I was at university - when Kessel was in a scoring slump that saw him score 1 goal in 15 games. Since that time, it's been updated and posted whenever Kessel is having trouble finding the net for extended periods of time.

The Legend of Tommy Lightning

This is a guest post by our friend Stu - he writes hilarious stuff about the things in
his life at The Nowhere Road and knows how to drink a beer faster than you.
The Finnish Flash is also Tommy Lightning
It’s February, which means many things: the lingering stench of this years “All-Star” festivities is finally wafting away, teams are starting to buckle down for that late season playoff push, the looming trade deadline is weighing heavy in the minds of many players, GM’s across the league are starting to wheel and deal in hopes of finding that final piece of Lord Stanley’s puzzle, and Evgeni Nabokov is still sitting at home ignoring Garth Snow’s phone calls.

Phil Kessel on a luggage cart makes for awkwardness
Phil Kessel made headlines earlier this week for his comments made on the disconnect he and coach Ron Wilson have. When the shy, introverted Kessel said "maybe it's just not working out here" - alarm bells went off. Had Kessel not been so awkward, he might have avoided the criticism that came with his comments when people thought he wanted out of Toronto. Taken out of context, it looks bad. What he meant was the line he was on was not working out - it just didn't come out that way.

Francois Beauchemin Let Off Burke's Bus

“I drive the bus. I decide who gets on the bus. I decide who gets off the bus. If the
bus is stuck in the ditch, then ultimately that’s my responsibility.” - Brian Burke
The Burke Bus was at it again – this time dropping off Francois Beauchemin in Anaheim and picking up Joffrey Lupul, prospect Jake Gardiner, and a conditional draft pick.

The Buck Stops Here

The Super Bure Bros. have done pretty well for themselves
Many people know that I loved Pavel Bure growing up and would always try to do his moves during shinny. My main problem was that I was a goalie and would still skate bull-legged even without goalie pads on. Not very good for dangling.

Peter Forsberg Is Back... But For How Long?

On Sunday, 37-year-old Peter Forsberg signed a one-year, $1 million pro-rated contract with the Colorado Avalanche. Right now, the only thing in his way are some immigration issues. Personally, we think Swedish people should be able to work and travel hassle free.

Optimus Reim transformed into a Toronto Maple Leafs goalie last night
Was a huge Saturday for goalies with 5 shutouts being posted. Niemi, Price, McElhinney, Rinne and Bryzgalov all helped their teams to victory by blanking the opposition. On the offensive side, Corey Perry scored a hat trick in a 3-0 win over the Avalanche, and R.J Umberger had 4 points in a 4-3 win over the Oilers. The Leafs were dominated again in Buffalo, losing 6-2 in a lousy effort. The Leafs haven't won in Buffalo since December of 2008. Here are headlines across Canada.

KHL Skills Competition Features New Hardest Shot?

In case you missed it on Puck Daddy today, Zdeno Chara is no longer the world record holder for the hardest shot in hockey. At the Kontinental Hockey League All Star Skills Competition, Denis Kulyash recorded a shot of 110.3 mph. This beat NHL record holder Zdeno Chara's blast of 105.9 mph. The 27 year old Kulyash, who is listed as 6'2 and 205lbs apparently beat the 6'9, 260lbs monster from Slovakia by 4.9 mph.

Why Girls Like to Date Hockey Players

Elisha Cuthbert loves to date hockey players
Carrie and Mike, Hilary and Mike, Willa and Mike... What is it with girls and hockey players named Mike? Regardless of their names, girls love hockey players. It could be an attraction to the great game of hockey, or some other explanation Cosmopolitan could give in an article titled "You'll Love the Way He Uses His Stick."

Pimp My Ride: Kris Versteeg Edition

Kris Versteeg of the Toronto Maple Leafs recently had his Audi R8 vandalized. The sleek sports car that cost him $150,000 was reportedly spit on, and had messages written on it using the dust covering it. If he can afford a $150,000 car, he can probably afford a $8 dollar car wash. I wouldn't let my Audi R8 sit with dust and salt on it like Jonas Gustavsson in the pressbox. Versteeg says he plans to involve the police in the matter, but says the incident does not impact his view on the city of Toronto. As far as vandalism goes, this doesn't seem too serious, unless the messages were threatening of course.

Len Barrie is a Punk

Former Tampa Bay Lightning owner Len Barrie better watch his back. He has a lot of current and former NHLers pretty pissed off at him.
