Check Out These Stats
Here are a few stats that made me do a double take:
Toilet Paper Soft D-Men:
Brian Campbell is having a great offensive season so far with 40 points in 57 games. But what stands out to me are his 6 penalty minutes on the year. I know he isn't known for being physical, but how don’t you get interference, slashing, hooking or tripping calls once and awhile playing defence. Other notable D-men with low PIMs include: Tomas Kaberle with 6 PIMs in 59 games, Jaime McBain with 2 PIMs in 52 games, and Kevin Klein 4 PIMS in 49 games.
The Mule is Clutch:
Johan Franzen has 23 goals so far this season and 10 of those goals were game winning goals to lead the league in that category. I always overlook Franzen when it comes to my fantasy drafts, but this year I wish I had him on my roster: 47 points in 59 games and he is a +27 on the year.
Goddamn Fantasy Free Agents:
I saw Adam Henrique on the free agent wire, and was going to pick him up, but I wanted to wait for Mike Green to go on the IR months ago. Of course Mike Green stayed day-to-day for over a month and I missed out on picking up Henrique. So far this year the rookie centre leads all rookies with 38 points in 49 games and is tied for the league lead in shorthanded goals with 4. I really shit the bed on not picking him up. Other free agents I missed the boat on: Joffrey Lupul, Max Pacioretty, and Olli Jokinen.
Stamkos Scoring At Even Strength:
33 of his 39 goals have been scored at even strength. Considering when he won the Rocket Richard with 51 goals he had 24 PP goals and 1 shorty for only 26 even strength goals this stat is pretty ridiculous. Last year Stamkos had 28 even strength goals out of 45 total. If Stamkos keeps his scoring up he will set career highs, but imagine if he could get his powerplay production up - his goal total could hit the big 60.
Kiss With A Fist:
David Clarkson known more for heavy hits and doing dirty work with his fists has scored 21 goals so far and is on pace to score 30. He has more goals this year than Dany Heatley (19), Rick Nash (18) and Anze Kopitar (17).
