Team Canada 2014

It's crazy to think that Sidney Crosby's golden goal was 3 years ago and the next Winter Olympics are only one year away. Steve Yzerman and company will be sitting down over the summer and deciding who they want to come to the pre-Olympics camp. While it's easy to say which players will probably be going to the camp, actually picking a 23-man roster is fucking tough. Canada should have a very strong forward group with many skilled centres being forced to play wing and their defence core should also be pretty solid. The fun stuff comes to Canada's goaltending which is a big question mark with no #1 goalie standing out, but many great goalies to choose from.

Let's have some fun and pick who we think will be on the 2014 Team Canada team in Sochi, Russia (note: this is also a pretty fun pre-drinking activity):

Forwards (13)

Rick Nash - Sidney Crosby - Steven Stamkos

Jonathan Toews - Claude Giroux - Jordan Eberle

John Tavares - Ryan Getzlaf - Corey Perry

Eric Staal - Patrice Bergeron -  Jamie Benn

Tyler Seguin

Just missing out: Jarome Iginla, James Neal, Milan Lucic, Mike Richards, Taylor Hall.

Defencemen (7)

Shea Weber - Drew Doughty
Kris Letang - Alex Pietrangelo
Duncan Keith - Brent Seabrook
Dan Boyle

Just missing out:  Michael Del Zotto, Dan Girardi, Marc Staal, Jay Bouwmeester.

Goaltenders (3)

Carey Price
Roberto Luongo
Marc-Andre Fleury

Just missing out: Cam Ward, Mike Smith

What do you think? How's Team Canada going to look in Sochi 2014?

  1. can we put in 2 teams? lol

  2. Nice team. The forwards I chose are the same except I have Mike Richards instead of Jordan Eberle. I get that Eberle has delivered for Canada on the international stage in the past, but I feel we need some more grit. Also, you have only one left handed shot on the back end. It seems Canada is not as deep with left handed shot defencemen as they are right handed. Either way I added Marc Staal to the mix.

My Team (Lines not in stone)

    Nash - Crosby - Stamkos
    Tavares - E.Staal - Perry
    Richards - Toews - Giroux
    Benn - Bergeron - Seguin

    Pietrangelo - Weber
    Keith - Seabrook
    M.Staal - Girardi

  3. These line combos are just too much fun to play around with.

  4. Dan Boyle?? really
I don't see him anywhere near Team Canada in 2014
