Connor McDavid Is Tearing Up The OHL

The #1 ranked prospect for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft is off to an amazing start in his third season with the Erie Otters of the OHL. Through 14 games, Connor McDavid, has already amassed an OHL and CHL-leading 14 goals and 42 points. Averaging 3 points/game, McDavid is currently on pace for 204 points although that likely won't happen because the junior star is destined to miss a handful of games for the World Juniors in December and because scoring 3 points/game is ridiculous. If he does keep this pace up through ~55 games or even dip a little, McDavid will have some of the highest numbers in the CHL in over a decade and similar point totals to another teenage phenom - Sidney Crosby.

Crosby posted 135 points as a 16-year-old in 2003-04 and followed that up with 168 points in his sophomore season in the QMJHL with the Rimouski Oceanic. There's no denying McDavid is great and Crosby comparisons are well-deserved as looking at his stats just boggles the mind. McDavid actually started slow with only 1 point in his first game, but since then has had seven 4-point games and helped the Otters off to an impressive 12-0-0-1 record.
McDavid's highlights have not gone unnoticed either, especially when he dazzled his future NHL-home crowd in Buffalo during a game against the Niagara Ice Dogs last month:

While he didn't score on this shorthanded chance, you still have to shake your head at his skills:

And lastly, this 4-point game he recently recorded features a beautiful shorthanded chance he did convert:

The kid is special and you'll be hearing even more about him as the World Juniors approach and he continues his terrific start.

  1. What's going to suck is having an exciting player like McDavid stuck in Arizona, Buffalo or Carolina. Not great markets for a budding superstar.
